Colin nearly fell out of his seat, the Gryffindor kid acted weird but there weren't any other out of the ordinary things going on.

...Who wants to start?"

"I'll go..."

"I have a question," he said, "Why is it that Colin almost fell out of his seat, he seemed surprised..." He gestured to Elewa. "But the rest of us didn't react nearly as much." He had another question but he figured he'd save it in case, or rather when, she was done attacking him for improper sentence structure or something. 'I wonder if she's related to the divination teacher?' he thought, 'And what's up with the over sized hamster?'

"That's a party of it, Tammy, yeah. However, crystals and minerals can be used to enhance your spellwork, or even to negate the spellwork of another."

Tammy looked at Amon as the professor answered her question and then lowered her voice adressing only Amon, "Enhancing spells, like that's a good idea in this place, do you think they told her about the wild magic?" Just then an idea hit Tammy, a most evil and amusing idea, she grinned, "Then again if they didn't bet we could have some fun." she mused as the plan slowly came together.

"Not do your homework?" "Seems like it might work. It also sounds like it'd backfire horribly."

Tammy nodded, "I'm liking the idea, I can see no draw backs, well aside from detentions and well I get those anyway, so it might work, and the only thing that backfires horribly are giant hornets." she mused recalling the only thing that had ever really backfired but not doing homework she couldn't see any bad signs to that. And anyway how could it be called homework, they never went home, they should rename it more school work in disguise.

Tammy listened as they were told to pick up the clear stone, she'd already picked them up the minute they'd been placed on the desk so she simply put down the pink one and held on to the clear one. Though closing of eyes? Tammy was more used to wand waving and speaking in silly dead languages. CLosing eyes seemed way too simple, even more than potions, which was just mixing stuff together till it exploded. Simple things tended to end badly for her, so Merlin knew would happen when she closed ehr eyes with these.

"Look, it makes Colin appear. It is a magic rock!"

Tammy giggled, "Yeah looks that way, wonder if we can find the one that makes Gryffindor 3rd years vanish and we could use it on Dylan... alot." she said quietly as she too noticed the older Slytherin boy wander in late. It wasn't so unusual for people to be late especially when they spung things on them like this lesson.

Tammy really didn't expect the jolt of energy from the stone, it wasn't major but was kind of like when you touched the end of your want with your tounge, she opened her eyes. "Wow that was weird," she said putting the stone down.

"Why is it that Colin almost fell out of his seat, he seemed surprised..." "But the rest of us didn't react nearly as much."

Tammy heard Amon's question, it was probabily because they were first years and the other two were a fair bit older than them. "Oh dear why can I see the imps all over again?" she said with a shrug, something was going to explode if not an imp then probabily a rock in this place.

"Look, it makes Colin appear. It is a magic rock!"

Colin chuckled at the comment hoping it went unnoticed by the Professor. However he figured he did not stand a chance of actually getting away with being late. His eyes were already open when they were told they could open them. As the stone sent quite a jolt through his body probably care of the professor. He tried to think if he overheard anything that he should have done differently. Even though according to Amon another kid had a similar strange reaction to say the least.

"You can open your eyes now. Okay, I want to go around the class and describe what you felt. Who wants to start?"

Colin had no interest in starting as he could not quite describe what had happened. It was definitely a jolt one that almost made him fall out of his seat. He wondered why he reacted the most but had a feeling it might be related to the visions he had as a child. Or possibly treatment that he received in the stone center. Colin said " A jolt not like electricity but more like " stopping himself before he compared it to what he used to feel as a kid when he had a really odd moment at the Stone Center. As whatever he was given there enhanced his already odd yet thankfully rare visions.

Colin continued " like when a ghost goes through you but amplified " even if he was not sure if that made any sense. As hardly felt something when a ghost went through him but multiply it by 100 and it might be this. Looking at the rock again not touching it he tried to figure out what the professor did to him.

"Oh dear why can I see the imps all over again?"

Colin said " Not the imps again. " with a grunt as he really did not want to see the imps again. As with the feeling from the first stone it might be him exploding.

Sapph listened as the students gave their accounts of how they had felt. It was not unusual that some of them had felt little more than a tingle, while others had nearly fallen out of their seats - it was simply an indicator of their affinity with that particular stone, and how much it could be used to aid their spellwork.

"It sent some sort of, er, power through my body? It sounds weird, like electricity, but it didn't hurt or anything. A strong, freaky energy almost. I guess."

She was surprised the quiet Gryffindor boy spoke first. "It's not "sending" energy, it's amplifying power you already have, so you can feel it more. What's your name?" Again, she could have dowsed for it pretty quickly, but would rather he told her himself.

"I have a question. Why is it that Colin almost fell out of his seat, he seemed surprised... But the rest of us didn't react nearly as much."

Amon would obviously rather discuss the others' reactions rather than his own. Well, she'd see about that. Setting Monster down, where he started snuffling around the edges of the room, she approached Amon's desk and picked up the quartz. "Given what I just explained with regards to what the stone does, and how it works, why do you think that might be?" She could feel the quartz's high vibration, and also the slight negativity that had been given off by Amon. Was always handy to know whether her students were totally open to what she was teaching.

" A jolt not like electricity but more like... like when a ghost goes through you but amplified "

The older boy, Colin, if the conversation flying not-so-discreetly around the room was anything to go by, seemed almost lost for words when trying to descrive what he had felt. "Colin, what's your magical specialty?" She wondered what the difference was that made him feel such a strong sensation from the quartz.

" Not the imps again. "

Sapph looked sharply around the room. "Less imps, more crystals, please. Colin, please continue." Her sharp tone faded quicikly, and her voice was back to its usual softness.

"It's not "sending" energy, it's amplifying power you already have, so you can feel it more..."

So it was like heat, he wondered at first. No, it wasn't. Heat could be gained, passed off from one thing to another... but they were both energy, right? Heat energy? Because heat made the molecules, or atoms or whatever move around, and change state. Was magical power a form of energy? Could it even be quantified? What did you measure it in, Merlins? Elewa imagined the pretty blond teacher writing an equation on the board: Magical Enegery = Mass times the Speed of Magic Squared...

...What's your name?"

This was more than he had bargained for. A question. He was being made to talk again, and now people would surely remember his name, and he'd stand out. At least he only had to say two words. "Elewa Parmenide," he answered, his pronunciation perfect, lacking an accent, and his tone blank. He sat in his seat with relatively good posture, except perhaps the way he held his shoulders, and the fact he'd angled his legs funny [seeing as he didn'twant to trip after crossing them somehow, like had happened in the past.]

It was a rather weird name, he'd discovered when he was littler. Usually, girls' names ended in A's. He remembered someone telling him about how in other languages, words had genders. Like, in french it was la and lu or something, and la was the girl one, and words ending in A's were usually female words. His name wasn't French, all he knew was that it was from Africa, he'd never bothered to ask where. There were French colonies in Africa, right? Hopefully not. They probably spoke African languages there, not French. Wasn't there some Hufflepuff, Didier Banquette or something, who was from France? He probably knew. He'd have to ask him later, too bad they didn't have a Library in this school, well, not one he wanted to go in.

Not wanting her to remember his name, he asked a few questions in the same bored, confident tone, "So, the more power you have the more you can feel it? If you held on to it all day what'd happen? Are there stone that take away your magic, like, de-amplify it? Can you trap your magic in a stone, and save it, or give to to someone else?" They flowed easily, and he decided to stop after a few, thinking that with her thinking of all that, she probably forget his name. Then, he could be silent, nodding vaguely like it all made sense, and she wouldn't call on him for the rest of the lesson because she had felt she had given him too much attention, and she would be hesitant to call on him later, and then it would reach a point where it would be too rude to ask his name like she had forgotten it, and she would just have to live without knowing it, or look it up, and he could just sit there quietly, hating the stupid class with it's stupid stupid name...

" ...but amplified "

Amplified again. That was another reason Elewa didn't like this class, everyone used the word 'amplified' too much. It didn't even sound nice, with the P and the F so close together. Like, why not 'augment'? Or 'expatiate'? Those two sounded much nice, and no one ever used them, especially no in this dumb rock class.

Elewa's imagination took him away from the dumb rock class again for a moment, and he began thinking over stupid ideas... Maybe that Hull boy was a ghost buster! Who ya' gonna call? Colin! Nah...

"Less imps, more crystals, please. Colin, please continue."

He had definitely missed something. What had happened to paying attention? He'd have to start that now. Stupid class. Stupid new class.
