A Dreary Afternoon (Open)
It was a beautiful day outside. Well, it looked beautiful. The limbs of the trees were coated in a thin layer of ice, just enough to make them
sparkle, and the ground was blanketed with freshly fallen snow. They sky was gray, with hints of blue here or there, and the air was undoubtedly cold.
Of course, Manuela didn't know first hand whether or not it felt cold, because she hadn't been outside all day, but those who she had seen outside
through the windows had rosy cheeks, and were all bundled up and shivering.
Manuela loved the cold, which was actually how she had acquired one- a cold, that is. She'd received a letter from her mother scolding her, reminding
her to wear a scarf, and so, out of spite, she hadn't, and now she was paying for it with every sneeze and glance outside.
Most people were outside, but there were a few students hanging indoors for whatever reason. Manuela was trying to read a book she'd found at the
bottom of her trunk, called Modern Day Magical Philosophy, but she kept getting distracted by one thing or another. She'd wanted to go back and get a
more engaging book, or her paint set, from the dormitory, but the steps were blocked by two students kissing, Wilburn Briner and Leslie
something-or-other, and she didn't wish to have to interact with either of them to get by.
She coughed again, and closed the book, glancing around the common room in hopes to discover something else to do.
